How to stop ________ Movie movies.

Posted by Tool-Of-The-System Aug. 5, 2008 @ 4:28 AM EDT

So someone... well... several people asked why the hell there are still _____ Movie movies being made. Of course, everyone with half a brain knows that these movies are completely lacking and only cash in on whatever's hot that season.

Actually, I bothered wasting my time to look up the budget vs. box office outcome of all the movies made by Friedberg and Seltzer. (The two writers / directors that keep making these godawful movies) Pretty much all the same... around 30 million blown on every flick, almost double that as profit. Only exception to that is Superhero Movie which was probably because seeing Meet the Spartans two months ago hurt its viewers' wallets by a lot.

That's one of the things I noticed about these movies. Meet the Spartans and Superhero Movie were so jam packed together on release dates. The Matrix sequels were half a year apart at least... and the Lord of the Rings trilogy was set in stone one year away from each other. Are you telling me that as soon as these money-grubbing Mencian writers make a turd they try to push it onto screens ASAP?

I did a little bit more number crunching to figure out what percentage of North America and the rest of the world is actually bothering watching these crappy movies, and for comparison I put everything against The Dark Knight which if you have seen it you'd know it was pure awesome and right now on IMDB the #1 movie (which will get dragged down once all the pissy people who poopoo movies to get attention wake up and spam it). As a matter of fact, The Dark Knight did a lot better than Date Movie, Scary Movie 4, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, and Superhero Movie COMBINED. TDK's budget was estimated at $180 million with a $596 million box office turnout giving it a gross to budget ratio of about 3.31. The Friedberg/Seltzer genre movies mentioned previously all totalled about $150 million for budget, and returned with a $490 million turnout. Its ratio, 3.27. So in purely fiscal terms, it's worth it to create shitty movie after shitty movie because there's people that will keep on seeing it. If we say the average income per movie ticket sale is $7, then it is assumed that over 56 million people in North America saw The Dark Knight, about 1 in every 6. The shitty genre movies on average? 7 million. 1 out of every 50 of the North American population. So somewhere on this continent there are 7 million people lowbrow enough to fork over $7 each and pay the bills for the high-class hookers these guys are nailing. (They might be gay, but Tim and Eric are already there.) And the rest of us have to put up with the bad advertisements that highlight the only two funny parts of the movie.

Hey, at least you can have a little faith in the rest of the population. A huge majority of people don't actually watch this garbage and are just as sick of it as you. So... how to stop them from making these films? Well, obviously don't go see it. Laugh at the people that actually do pay the money to see it. But unless you're a higher up that can actually cease the production of these movies, you're SoL. It's simple economics at work: Hollywood will keep selling turds if people keep buying them.

Just be glad these people won't be voting. How I know that? Because they'll all be at the movie theatre that day watching Election Movie.
